meet the assistant coaches

As TW Training grows to help more non-elite runners train smarter so they can race faster, it’s important to bring on additional coaches so athletes continue to experience the high level of coaching + support they’ve come to expect with TW Training programs. TW Training assistant coaches specifically support athletes in the Race Ready Training Program. All assistant coaches are currently training with Coach Tammy or have trained with her in the past, so they have a deep knowledge and belief in the training philosophy + results orientation that TW Training is known for. Read on below to learn more about the newest members of the TW Training coaching team!

sarah Herlihy

Sarah is excited to join the team as an assistant coach. As a longtime member of the running community, she has completed five marathons and is currently training for her sixth. After her first marathon, Sarah began working with Tammy to deepen her understanding of training, injury prevention, and the value of having support throughout the process - and has never looked back! And in the process, has shaved off almost 40 minutes from her marathon time in 3 years.

Being an avid traveler, training while on the road is one of the most challenging parts of the marathon cycle. Having a coach to help build a plan makes training cycles more attainable and far less lonely. Combined with her time working at Fleet Feet, these experiences have deepened her appreciation for the support, connection, and sense of community that makes running so rewarding. Now based in Brooklyn, Sarah enjoys running throughout New York but still has the most fun on the crazy hills of Maine followed by a cold plunge into the ocean. She looks forward to helping athletes build confidence, stay healthy, achieve their goals, and enjoy the process along the way.

gene white

Gene is a Chicago based runner who has been training with TW Training since January 2024. During that time, he has improved from a 5:05 marathon debut to a 3:55, and from 2:16 to 1:47 in the half marathon. A big part of that progress has come from learning how to stay consistent and not overthink the process. One of the biggest shifts for him was slowing down. His easy runs are often several minutes per mile slower than his race pace. This polarity tends to surprise people, but it’s what’s allowed him to recover well, stay healthy, and keep improving over time - all while enjoying an active social and work-life balance outside the sport. This year, he’s focused on shorter races and building back speed, including recent PRs at the Cinco de Miler (8K) and Soldier Field 10 (10K), with similar goals this fall across the mile, 5K, and half marathon, before returning to the marathon for the fourth time next spring. Outside of running, Gene is a die hard Cubs fan, volunteers at Forever Fortunate Felines (a local cat rescue), and is kept company at home by his beloved cat, Lucy. Gene calls Lakeview (and the Chicago lakefront trail) home.

Michelyne Chavez

Michelyne Chavez (pronounced Mih-shell-lean Cha-viz, she/her) is a Quincy, MA-based runner, community builder, founder of the Quincy Social Run Club, and brand ambassador for Marathon Sports. With over a decade of endurance running under her belt, Michelyne has toed the line at 5 marathons (PR: 3:35, Chicago 2022), 7 half marathons (PR: 1:39, Richmond 2023), and dozens of 5Ks, 10Ks, and 10-milers. She brings firsthand knowledge of the Race Ready program to her coaching, having completed it twice in preparation for the 2025 Rhode Island Half Marathon and the 2025 Indianapolis Monumental Marathon, finishing at 1:40 and 3:40 respectively. Off the roads, Michelyne enjoys birdwatching, knitting, cuddling with her bengal cat, Sterling, and traveling with her spouse, Jake. Michelyne is thrilled to bring her passion for running to coaching by supporting fellow running enthusiasts develop consistency and confidence with their training.

hannah honig

Hannah is an avid runner with multiple marathons and half marathons under her belt. She picked up running during COVID as a way to escape the house and take a break from training for collegiate rowing. After running her first half-marathon, she fell in love with the sport. When training for her first two marathons, Hannah made ALL the common mistakes. This led her to seek out a coach, as she knew she had a lot to learn. Hannah has enjoyed working with a running coach (shout-out to Tammy) to deepen her understanding of running and herself. She has learned so many valuable skills and looks forward to working with others through their own running journeys! Fun fact, Hannah had the opportunity in college to row and compete internationally at the Henley Women’s Regatta in England!
